Both campuses are served by Newport Bus routes and the University has linked up with Newport Bus services, so all University staff and students are eliegible for a discount. This buses stop in an area of town where a lot of students live and also stop opposite the train station on the way to the other campus. If you need to get to and from town on weekends, the number 28 bus runs between the central bus station and Caerleon Campus.
The train station in Newport is just a 15 minute walk from the city campus and from there you can get trains all over Wales and further afield, with hourly services to London and Birmingham, which can both be reached within 2 hours.
Living in the area
Caerleon is a beautiful village with lots of countryside surrounding it. The wider Newport area has everything you would expect of a medium-sized city, with rail connections to the nearby cities of Cardiff and Bristol. The main campus at Caerleon is set in a beautiful place and is great for chilling out .
There is one Student Union bar on campus (main Caerleon one) which is big enough for a good night and hosts events occasionally. Caerleon itself is known for the vast amount of pubs and you can take your pick of which to visit, just be careful to avoid the old man pubs!
Newport itself is full of clubs suitable for all music and scene tastes and is the most popular place to be for a top night out.
Where the main campus is based in Caerleon, there is a small university shop selling convenience items. In Caerleon itself, there are two main convenience stores, one up the hill from the campus, and one down through the bottom gates towards to centre of the village. They both sell enough to provide quick top ups to your main shop.
The nearest supermarkets are Iceland and Sainsbury's in the town centre, with two Tesco's that are much further away. Newport has plenty of shops to offer including DP, New look, WH Smith, Boots and Wilkos. The city is well-connected to the surrounding cities of Cardiff and Bristol by regular rail services which are both guaranteed to meet any other shopping needs.
