Parking and Permit Information:
Permits are generally not needed unless you are located in the City Centre or near the rugby and football stadiums. The majority of student lets do not need permits due to off road parking and lots of houses have drives. However, if you require a permit it can easily be obtained by visiting the Leicester council website.
Living in Leicester:
As with most university towns getting about can be expensive and time consuming so it is a good idea to get a bike. There are loads of places to leave your bike safely both at uni and in the city. But get a padlock!
Leicester has lots of variety for students in terms of the social scene. There are popular venues that hold student nights every day of the week. Liquid and Club Republic are popular clubs for students on a Monday night. Other highlights include the 02 Academy on Wednesday and Friday Nights. Other popular bars and pubs in Leicester include Olive’s bar on Queens Road, The Dry Dock and the Loaded Dog on London Road.
Leicester has two indoor shopping centres which both have the majority of high street stores and popular brand names. Firstly, there is the Haymarket and secondly the Shires Centre. In combination with these shopping centres, the majority of smaller independant shops and boutiques can be found in Leicester Lanes and St Martin’s.
